Learn what to do if your BI Tools tab goes missing in Sage Intelligence

In our last tip we showed you what to do if your Task Pane goes missing.  You can find it here.  This time we’re going to follow the same thread and look at what to do if your BI Tools tab disappears.

Step 1

The first thing to do is make sure that in Excel, the BI Generator add-in is active and the Solver add-in is inactivate.  To check this, follow these steps.

  1. After running out a report from the Report Manager select File, Options and then Add-Ins.
  2. BI Generator should be listed under Active Application Add-ins and Solver Add-in under Inactive Application Add-ins.

If BI Generator isn’t listed there, then you can activate by doing the following.

  1. Select COM Add-ins from the Manage drop down at the bottom of the Excel Options window and click GO.
  2. From the list of available add-ins make sure BI Generator is checked and then click OK.

The Generator should now be activated and you can check this by going back to the Add-ins menu in the Excel options.  If the Solver Add-in is activated, then deactivate it as follows.

  1. Select Excel Add-ins from the Manage drop down at the bottom of the Excel Options window and click Go…
  2. In the list of available add-ins make sure that Solver Add-in is unchecked and then click OK.

Step 2

If the BI Tools tab doesn’t appear after completing Step 1 then make sure that you have following two run-times installed.

VSTO 2010 is installed automatically with Sage Intelligence and VSTO 3.0 is installed automatically from version 7.6 onward.  If a component hasn’t been installed or has been removed for some reason, then you can confirm what you have by doing the following.

  1. Open your Windows Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.
  2. Check if either of the above to run-times are missing from the list of installed programs.
  3. Use the above links to download and install the missing components.

Step 3

If the above two steps don’t work, then it means there is a deeper configuration issue with your machine.  You should then contact Sage support so that they can take a closer look.  You can find the contact details for your Sage product at the following link: www.sageintelligence.com/support.
