Ever tried to sort data based on the Month field in chronological order and not alphabetical? It can be frustrating but we have a solution for you. By sorting based on the custom sort order the data can be sorted in chronological order and not alphabetical. Below we explain how.
Applies To: MS Excel 2003, 2007 and 2010
1. This screen shot will be used for our example
2. When the data is sorted by the Month column in ascending order the result will be as below. That is alphabetical order and not chronological
3. To sort the data based on the month field in chronological order. Follow the steps below
a. Under the Data tab, select the Sort Option
b. Then select as below
c. Select as per screen shot below
d. Select OK
e. Select OK
f. The data list will now be sorted in chronological order and not alphabetical as below
