Enablement drives adoption

One thing that the best business schools and training organisations don’t teach is how enablement drives software adoption. What is enablement? Where does it fit in? Isn’t it just normal product training? How much of a software vendors expense budget should be allocated to enablement resources and capacity?

Should software vendors charge their channel and end users to “learn” how to use their software (read adopt the software) and risk having people turn them down or should the learning be made available for free, and risk looking like a cheap and nasty vendor. Where is the middle ground, what is the common denominator for software developers?

Every vendor faces the same issues, why can’t the business schools train young developers about these things before they embark on a career in software. Having the best functionality, funkiest look and feel and most intuitive processes means nothing unless people can understand what it is designed to do.
