What is a Webcast?

A webcast is a web-based seminar. It is an interactive presentation where information is demonstrated and discussed online. Think of it as a way to attend a conference without leaving your home or office, or getting out of your pyjamas!

Once you connect to the webcast you’ll be able to hear the presentation through your computer’s speakers, while watching the presenter’s slideshow. You can also send the presenter your questions or comments online in real-time, and they will answer them immediately, or at the end of the presentation. It’s that simple.

Follow these 2 easy steps to register for a webcast:

1. Register for the Webcast

  • Each webcast has a registration link which will bring up a webpage that has the webcast title and description. You need to confirm that this is the webcast you would want to register for by checking the title and description, then click on the Register button at the bottom of the screen.
  • You will be taken to a registration form which you need to complete after which you must click the Submit button.

2. Confirm your registration.

  • You will also receive a confirmation email that includes the details of the webcast. The confirmation email will contain a link that will allow you to download a Microsoft Outlook meeting reminder to add to your calendar.

NB: If you are attending a webcast for the first time, a small file must be downloaded and installed to allow you to join the meeting. To fully participate in the meeting, you will need to have speakers and a microphone or a microphone enabled headset. WebEx is a web-based service, so you can use it from any computer (Windows, Mac, Linux, or Solaris) – as well as your iPhone, BlackBerry, or any other Wi-Fi or 3G-enabled mobile device.
